Last week, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by world renowned journalist and TV host Roland Martin of TVOne’s News One Now. I traveled to Washington, D.C. with the hopes of sharing my story with the world for 2 to 3 minutes max and flying right back to Vegas. From the moment I arrived, I realized things might be a little different – a good different. The green room was jammed packed that morning: TVOne films all of their content inside the NBC News studios. I was surrounded by financial gurus, activists, comedians and music legends (Michigan’s own El Debarge). Not only was I in good company, I watched “A Different World” as I waited patiently for my segment to begin.
Once it was “Showtime,” I was ready to roll. I sat in my seat. Dapped it up with Roland. Let’s do it! First off, I’d like to S/O Roland and the segment producers – job well done! The interview started with a clip of TVOne’s hottest show, “Born Again Virgin,” featuring Danielle Nicolet, Tank and Eva Marcelli. I actually watch Born Again Virgin so I thought that was a pretty cool tie-in. They also made reference to “The Wait,” the new book written by DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good. Side note: If you haven’t picked it up yet, it’s a great read!
During the interview, I noticed that the ladies from the previous segment were still on the set to my left – didn’t think much of it. However, when Roland asked them to chime in, I was actually shocked! They did a wonderful job asking me real questions and providing extremely positive feedback throughout the segment. Once the segment was over, I had the opportunity of speaking to multiple people off camera who were inspired by my testimony. Quite frankly, that was the best part of the day! I love spending time with people who are passionate about the overall message: God/positive love for self and others.
As I was leaving the station, the producer asked if I could stay a little longer. He informed me that Roland wanted to interview me for his radio show. I was truly honored and humbled at that moment. We talked some more about my journey, with a small audience of students from Morgan State University.
God worked miracles in my life within an hour. While at Starbucks, I felt the total impact of that hour and became emotional. It was awesome! So blessed to know Jesus Christ and know that he has a plan – for us all! Definitely enjoyed my time in DC. I will be back soon…waiting for warmer weather though! 🙂
