Happy New Year 2018!
For those who are reading this, you’ve made it into another year… congratulations and God bless! I believe 2018 will be the best year ever for all of us. Seriously. There’s something about 2018 – I can just feel it in the air. The last time I felt like this about a year (2014), it was life-changing and almost life-ending:
Now, since 2014, each year has improved drastically. 2015 was groundbreaking. 2016 was challenging. 2017 was humbling. Because we’ve just started the year, I’m not exactly sure what word will best describe 2018. However, I already know what my mentality will be all year long. I will be “Passing The Cup” in 2018.
Passing The Cup is my new personal philosophy on life. Now, don’t get it twisted: I’m still living at my own pace 24/7/365, but this passing the cup thing is real and it’s here to stay. Last December, my church (Downtown Faith) did a series on HOPE. During this series, we wanted people to know that we are going to bring hope to our “hoods” within the Downtown Las Vegas area. The idea worth discussing on Week 1 was “The very presence of a faith community should bring hope to every community.” We felt that we couldn’t bring hope to our neighbors until we were for our neighbors.
The key Bible verses were Colossians 3:1-17, where Paul is writing a letter to the Colossians while being imprisoned. As we were going through the text, verse 16 really stood out to me. It reads “Let the message of Christ, and all its richness, fill your lives.” When I heard this, something clicked. I wanted this in my life at all times. I wanted to be filled with His love, grace and mercy daily. I wanted to pass this gift around to anyone who would listen to His Word. I wanted to pass the cup of faith, hope and love around to everyone. This was my new assignment for 2018.
So, there you have it… I’m all about passing the cup in 2018. Initially, I thought this would be a one-year deal but after thinking about it, I want Christ to fill up my life forever. My cup of life will always need His love, forgiveness and guidance. As long as we recognize that we have a cup and that it’s refillable, God will always honor free refills. And who doesn’t like free refills?
Here’s an idea: Try passing the cup this year. Join me in sharing God’s message of love and compassion to the world. Keep your cup in your hands at all times. God will make sure that our cups will overflow with his goodness and grace. There is enough joy and salvation for everyone. Enjoy this precious time with fellow believers. Let others (believers and non-believers) see the God inside your spirit. Remember, Passing The Cup is all about these three things:
