2016: WTWG Year in Review

Last year, I started a new WTWG tradition where I reflected and gave my personal perspective on the year 2015. God was extremely good to me in 2015 – many of my dreams and goals became my reality. The objective for 2016 was to unquestionably trust God in every aspect of life. Not 90%. Not 75%. 100% of the time. Trusting God 100% sounds like it should be the easiest thing in the world to do but it’s not (even for Christians). It takes time, effort and discipline. In order for me to become the man God wanted me to be, I had to grow closer to him and His word.  I had to go skydiving and jump out of the plane of being comfortable and land into a new place of freedom and purpose.

The first big leap of faith I took in 2016 was becoming a motivational speaker. When I created WTWG in 2014, I had no idea that I would be traveling around the country speaking to people around celibacy and self-worth. I remember heading to New York City in January to kick off my “See It Through” tour. Before the plane took off, I made a Facebook post. I received a comment from an old friend – the comment was touching. Everything hit me all at once and I broke down. I was so excited about embracing the moment right in front of me. I was traveling down an unfamiliar road and didn’t know how things would turn out. It was frightening. It was bold. It was courageous. For me, it was the only thing that made sense if I was going to discover my full potential in 2016. The outcome of the tour was already successful before going to NYC because I gave it all to God FIRST.

Another BIG surprise in 2016 was becoming a published author. Again, this was not a part of my 2016 master plan. As of matter of fact, I’m not sure I thought I’d ever become an author. However, God had other plans for myself. Not only did I become an author but I reached “Number One Best Seller” with my first book, “Hashtag Motivation: Feed Your Mind.”  Now that I was published, I got bit by the writer’s bug. I wanted to write more books. Through encouragement from Melanie Bonita and others, I was able to release “Hashtag Love: Open Your Heart.”  God also made it possible to become a life coach this year as I launched my On T.I.M.E. Success Coaching Program, as well as my weekly radio segment, “It’s Worth It with JimDre Westbrook.”

Special thanks to Essence Live and TvOne News One Now with Roland Martin for allowing me to share my testimony with their audiences. I would also like to thank DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good catching wind of me writing about them in the Huffington Post and sending me an autographed copy of their New York Times Best-selling book, The Wait. Thanks family!

2016 was a year of growth. I was able to fully immerse myself into God’s promise. My brand became stronger. My message reached more people. My spiritual connection became deeper. Overall, I slowed down and allowed God to take control of my life. As I decreased, he increased and my life has not been the same ever since. All the glory to The Most High!

Happy New Year, everyone. Be safe and be blessed in 2017. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for us all. Get READY to receive BLESSINGS on BLESSINGS! 🙂
